Principal’s Desktop Report                                                                                                                                                       Monica Ward, Principal

Fredericksburg Elementary School is sprinting at a fast pace toward the upcoming holidays. It feels as though school just started and here we are in the 2nd Nine Weeks. We have had a great start, routines are in place, students are being challenged and working toward mastery of the grade level TEKS, and teachers are busy creating engaging lessons and positively encouraging their students to do their best.

Several changes have taken place this school year. We are now a second through fifth grade campus, with first grade moving to the Primary School. We went from a campus with 1,051 students to a campus with 850 students. This has relieved the campus in size and with the extra space we have been able to add additional Specials classes. Specials is now the new name for what we used to call CAMP/CLAMP. We are currently able to offer students Music, Art, PE, Istation Computer Lab, Imagine Math Computer Lab, Computer Typing, Library 2nd Step, and Science Lab. Along with the smaller size campus, we were able to create a master schedule that has allowed our students to go to Specials, two times a day. Feedback from students has been positive and we look forward to continuing to be able to offer students a variety of extra-curricular activities.

Another change, new this year, we have moved from an early exit model toward a Dual Language-One Way Campus. Our second grade teachers have been teaching their Billingual students in English one day and Spanish the next. Our goal is to provide instruction in both English and Spanish as a way to grow both languages simultaneously in our students. When our second graders move to third grade next year, they will continue with a Dual Language-One Way model. Our ultimate goal for the future will be moving to a Dual Language-Two Way model. When this happens, we will be able to offer Spanish instruction to our Monolingual or English Speaking students.

Additionally, new this year, is the start of the school day. This year the tardy bell rings at 8:01 a.m. This has allowed students to be in class and teachers are able to get started immediately. Doors open at 7:30 a.m. Students dropped off by car and needing to eat breakfast, should be dropped off before 7:45 a.m. Students riding the bus will be allowed to eat breakfast. Students arriving to school by car after 8:01 a.m. will be counted tardy.

If you want to stay in the know, sign up for School Messenger, Facebook, and Twitter. Here you will receive important updates, meeting times, and pictures of events taking place throughout the year. Parents can receive information in one of three ways. Parents can register for School Messenger by going to your phone and entering To: 68453. In the messge section type "y."
